Maxine Williams
1078 Earnscleugh Road, Clyde
Central Otago artist Maxine Williams is a Clyde person, born and bred, she knows her district and its people intimately. Like many here she is passionate about the culture and environmental protection of this special part of New Zealand. She holds a BFA from the Dunedin School of Art and since graduating she has been involved in all facets of the arts especially through her work as arts coordinator for the Central Otago region for seven years.
Her arts practice includes painting, photography, graphic design, film and sculpture. She concentrates on themes of her reality, travels, views and opposites which too many seem another world. Her place in Clyde is quite removed from global issues the local issues like water quality is something she watches and believes the degradation is happening before our eyes. "The screen rules our image based society and I admit being a sucker for new technology and try to use it in my art and communications" says Maxine. Recycled materials such as e-waste and vintage glass and metal are often used as her small way of saving the planet, avoiding consumerism and showing her world.
