"Darling Mr London", a farce by Anthony Marriot and Bob Grant, is set in the living room of suburban couple, Edward and Rose Hawkins. While Edward’s fascination outside work is playing with toy soldiers, at work at the international telephone exchange he spends his time chatting up the operators in neighbouring European countries – affairs by proxy. Some of those operators think the annual Miss Europhone contest, hosted this year in Edwards’s home town, gives them the ideal opportunity to meet their “Darling Mr London”. The effect is sometimes chaotic – and often hilarious.
