Gallery Thirty Three Announces Highly Anticipated Bing Dawe Exhibition
Renowned New Zealand artist and sculptor Bing Dawe is set to present his latest collection of works at Wānaka's Gallery Thirty Three this November.
The exhibition, From Flower to Flower, is Bing Dawe’s final exhibition in 2024 and marks just his second exhibition this year. The artist will be in attendance for the November 1st opening at Gallery Thirty Three, offering an insight into the inspiration behind his latest collection.
From Flower to Flower is a continuation of ideas from recent works, produced under the collective title 'Sharing the Dry'. Dawe says in these works he "introduced ideas and observations around the storage and protection of water and the importance natural hydro systems play in the environment".
The tree form continues in this collection, which Dawe says he uses "as an integrated device representing the branches of itself as well as of rivers and waterways and the fauna that inhabits them".
The celebrated artist is scaling back his exhibitions from 2025 to just one a year, so the next opportunity to view such a body of work in Wānaka will be at Gallery Thirty Three in November 2026.
Gallery Thirty Three Director Vanessa George says this is an amazing and rare opportunity to view such a body of Dawe's works. "From Flower to Flower will generate a lot of interest and, as Bing scales back his exhibition schedule, this is an unmissable opportunity."
Bing Dawe is Gallery Thirty Three’s most senior artist. Working in metal and wood, his sculptures are highly sought after, meaningful and intricate.
Dawe says this collection of works continues to pose the question, "are we entering an era of climate extremes and do nature's past solutions and adaptions offer us ways to learn and repair; when we see the Kowhai or Mānuka in full bloom is it not a good time to stop and appreciate?"
