PAT HEWITT – A LIFE IN FABRIC EXHIBITION 

A representation of Pat Hewitt’s lifetime love of fashion and craft will be on show in the Russell Henderson Art Gallery during the month of August. This is a unique opportunity to view a large body of work including 58 quilts and a selection of garments. All quilts will be available for sale by silent auction. Pat Hewitt (nee Warhurst) was born in Clyde in 1927, and grew up in Alexandra. Following a stint overseas, Pat returned to Central Otago to marry Robert Hewitt and worked with him modernising and developing Hewitt’s Drapery store in Alexandra. Later she established her own clothing label, One Only – one-off pieces sold locally and in Dunedin.

Many locals reminisce about the popular garden party fashion shows Pat hosted.This has been an exciting collaboration between the Hewitt family, Central Stories Museum & Art Gallery, Dr Jane Malthus (Dunedin based dress historian), Eden Hore Fashion Museum and many of Pat Hewitt’s friends.

A full colour catalogue will be available for sale for $15.

Entry to the exhibition is by donation.
