Italy, 1944. The allied onslaught stalls at Monte Cassino and the 28th
Māori Battalion find themselves centre stage. Taking cover in a stable, a Māori and an Italian soldier find themselves trapped in a deadly stand-off. Their survival depends on co-operation.
With music and comedy, hilarious and moving characters, this gem of a show shines a light on the complex emotional bonds of NZ’s wartime history and the three universals that Maori shared with the Italians: family, food and song – not to mention wily cunning, a love of vino and a passion for the ladies.
Strange Resting Places (80 minutes, no interval) is on stage at the Tarras Hall on Sat 11th June at 7.30pm. Tickets: Adults $25; Supergold $20; Student $15 will be on sale at the Cromwell iSite & Tarras Store from 23rd May
