The Museum of very small things
This show was born of the meeting of two Marions : Marion Mewburn and Marion Vialade. One (the famous ‘teapot lady’) is from Germany based in Millers Flat, the other one (the printmaker) is French based in Alexandra.
…Two roads in life which crossed each other at the perfect time in the perfect place, here in New Zealand.
…Two artistic worlds meeting at this crossroad that will immediately start interacting with each other. Lots of chatting and laughing!
Here pottery and pictures (prints and drawings) tell the same stories in different media, they speak about stories that haunt our personal lives, stories of our own very intimate beings.
And somehow stories of Mankind…
Open the door of our “Museum of very small things” and discover what these Marions are made of.
In this place, very small things get bigger (like under a magnifying glass) and important ones become smaller, almost insignificant…
In there, we keep our hopes and our dreams, our beautiful pictures, our fears too.
And all these little items we have been carrying around for so long, these objects which live in our houses and our heads : keepsakes, pretty stones, nice vessels, memories, magical gifts… and then, there is the cabinet of curiosities (where did it come from ?) full of sheep and angels and very cheeky girls.
Marions don’t know why … but they understand that these personal collections put together, offer a fair self-portrait, a mark in time of their lives, of them being here, something worth keeping in a museum for when everything will pass and be forgotten.
A part of a bigger whole to remember humanity once it’s gone…
This show is a collaboration work, a constant discussion, a playground, an exchange between two marions opening their chests and sharing their lighter and darker sides.
Be an observer, a spectator, enter and watch. Be surprised and listen to the tinkle of laughter.
