Location: Gibbston Valley
Region: Queenstown
Dates: Sun, 1 April 2012 @ 6pm - 10pm
Summer Playground Series presents:
JULIA DEANS.
Formerly the front woman of Fur Patrol, Ms Deans has stepped effortlessly into the role of solo artist – delivering some of her most exquisite songs yet in the debut album Modern Fables. At times tinged with folk, at others pure balladry, Modern Fables showcases a consummate talent capable of musical storytelling that moves and inspires. Keep an ear out for her brand new single The Wish You Wish You Had.
SETH HAAPU.
Born in Wanganui, Seth took to music early – recording layered harmonies over the top of an instrumental track using a Panasonic cassette recorder at the young age of 8. Growing up in Rotorua, he continued to hone is craft, studying classical music at Rotorua Boys High and practicing at any spare moment he had.
In 2009, Seth presented demos of ‘Bones’ and ‘Owe You Nothing’ which ultimately lead to a direct signing to Sony Music New Zealand and the recording of his debut album. Working alongside musicians such as Godfrey De Grut (Che Fu), Nick Gafney (Golden Horse) and Chip Matthews (Open Souls), the resulting album delivered perfectly to the vision Seth set out to achieve.
Winehouse Manager Ben Owens says the Summer Playground Series offers locals a welcome alternative to the ‘large concert format’ music line up scene this year.
“We are very fortunate to be able to provide locals and visitors, with a rare opportunity to enjoy some of New Zealands finest music talent in our relaxed, laid back garden setting. There’s a lot on in the summer music scene this year, so we thought let’s create a series that’s appealing to those looking for quality New Zealand music, but with out the crowds, parking nightmare or toilet queues. We have kept the ticket price at a very affordable $45 per gig and all ages are welcome. What better way to spend a lazy Sunday arvo than with a bottle of van Asch Rose, a beautiful Winehouse platter and the very best of Kiwi Music? “
