Roger Browne

Prior to retirement Roger was a senior lecturer in electronic engineering at Massey Universityin Palmerston North and lived on a lifestyle block in the Manawatu. He has been an activeenvironmentalist for a long time.Over a twenty year period Roger and Wendy converted a block of Manawatu farmland intowoodland. Since retiring in 2007 they have been facing the challenges of establishingplantings on a block in Chapman Road. Roger will be talking about the work he is doing onhis property to preserve the unique saline environment that supports very rare halophyticplants.

Tessa Bunny

Tessa has recently submitted thesis for a masters in Science Communication from Universityof Otago and presently works for DOC as Programme Manager of Community Relations.Tessa’s background includes working as a landscape architect for district councils involvingstreetscape design, large-scale design and managing community initiatives.As a landscape architect she has been constantly evaluating what makes a good successfulplace. “I have long thought about why we are always striving to get away from urban areaswhenwe have the opportunity to create exciting dynamic and satisfying places, justby seeing the opportunities”.

 

13th July

Grant Norbury

Grant has worked as a wildlife ecologist for 28 years in the dry ecosystems of outbackAustralia and Central Otago. He currently works for Landscape Research on pestmanagement and biodiversity conservation. He is the chair of COET, the Central OtagoEcological Trust, a community group restoring native lizard and plant populations in theAlexandra basin.
