Janet de Wagt is a New Zealand born artist who has lived and painted throughout the world.

She has exhibited widely, selling her works worldwide.

Her paintings reflect the landscape at the ‘bottom of the world’.  She paints on site, in all weathers, rain, hail or shine, capturing the mood and emotion in the southernmost depths of New Zealand.

She herself says ‘no wonder Van Gogh‘s paintings were small!’

Transporting a wet large canvas from a beach in a dinghy – tossed by waves in remote Dusky Sound is like a performance piece – that’s what you get.

Janet’s adventure is portrayed in the painting.  She loves good wine, good coffee, fine food, classic cars, playing with friends, capturing each adventure and living it to the full.

So don’t expect a chocolate box painting!!!!

Speargrass Inn owners Jacqui van der Voort and Husband James Russell have rekindled the Fruitlands flame of the match made in heaven; Art and food. You can enjoy fine local work in the warm café with the freshest local cuisine or wonder through the garden and appreciate beautiful sculptures the perfect venue for weddings and parties. On Sundays during the summer they have live music in the sunny courtyard.
