Russell Clark Mural Exhibition Opening

Commissioned by the City Hotel, Dunedin in the 1960s, Russell Clark painted a series of mural panels depicting the 1860s gold rush. Clark's typical humour is present throughout the images of Dunedin, Gabriel's Gully, Chinese miners, harsh climates, gold robberies and much more. Russell Clark was known for his work as an official war artist, in the NZ School Journals & the Listener, as a painter, sculptor and illustrator.
The gold rush panels are an historic treasure too fragile at present to be exhibited. A reproduction of all panels will be shown in the Russell Henderson Art Gallery at Central Stories 27 April - 28 May 2012. Tickets to the opening on 27 April are $10 and available from the Central Stories office. Phone: 03 448 6230.
