SPOONER MOSLEY DUO
Joseph Spooner (cello) |  Kathryn Mosley (piano)

Katherine Mansfield and her Music:

Critically acclaimed piano and cello duo featuring  New Zealand-born pianist Kathryn Mosley and British cellist Joseph Spooner performing a collection of beautiful music linked to the celebrated NZ author, Katherine Mansfield, including works by CHOPIN & ARNOLD TROWELL

Katherine Mansfield's  love for the New Zealand cellist Arnold Trowell, hailed as a talented performer in Britain and on the Continent, seems to have been unreciprocated.

The concert includes Trowell’s Rêverie du Soir, which we know from Mansfield’s letters was a work close to her heart. A modern performance of NZ born but long time resident of London, Hugo Anson’s modernistic Rawhiti: a Song of the Sun and Chopin's Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 65,- his last major work.

Trowell  composed, among his many works, a set of charming miniatures dedicated to his ‘dear friend’ Katherine Beauchamp.  The concert  includes one of these,  Sérénade. Prelude a piece for cello and piano written by NZ contemporary composer, Nigel Keay, specifically for the Spooner Mosley Duo  as part of their recital for the International Conference on Katherine Mansfield  in Paris  in June 2014. Trowell’s Sonata no. 2, a substantial work in full-blooded Romantic vein, will bring the concert to a close.
