'Always You Can Hear a River Somewhere Singing' 

Lines from the late poet Brian Turner's poetry about Central Otago's rivers, are used as titles for the works, in Gail de Jong's latest solo exhibition at Hullabaloo Artspace.

Rivers symbolise energy, chance, chaos and order and the compelling force of nature. The multi layered oil paintings are a slow and complex working of surfaces and contours. Each of these works celebrate painting as a inventive, authentic one off qualitative product, at a time when digital reproduction is all around us.
