NZ Army Band - Roxburgh
Location: Roxburgh Cinema, 132 Scotland St,
Region: Roxburgh
Dates: Wed, 6 March 2013 @ 7.30pm
The world famous New Zealand Army Band will take to the stage in Roxburgh as a part of their upcoming Concert Series to Southland and Otago this March. The band is always in high demand and amongst other things has already performed at the International NZ Sevens in Wellington and Classical Sparks in Christchurch this year. They are most famed as a marching band and have travelled the world to perform at events such as the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Pageant at Windsor Castle, the Basel Tattoo in Switzerland and the International Defence Exhibition in Abu Dhabi to name just a few.
Whilst marching will always be a large part of what they do, the NZ Army Band pride themselves on their versatility and ability to change between musical styles and this is very evident in their concert program. It promises to entertain and impress all tastes with a wide variety of music ranging from classical and big band to brass band, jazz and pop. The band boasts several fine vocalists and a number of world class brass players in their thirty-strong ensemble and many of these will be featured during the evening.
In recent years the band has focussed their attention when touring on venues in smaller ‘heartland’ towns. They have chosen to visit Roxburgh due to the town's strong brass banding history and they will be giving something back to the locals with 50% of all profits from the concert going to the Roxburgh Brass Band's Learners' Program where it will be used to purchase new instruments.
Tickets can be purchased from Roxburgh Post Office and cash sales will also be available at the door from 6.30pm, subject to availability.
