Bannockburn based artist Megan Huffadine has a BFA in Fine Arts from Canterbury University as well as a BA in Anthropology from Otago University.

This background, which includes working in museums, has a strong influence on her work. Megan’s practice focuses on the rituals of gathering and display. The processes of gathering and collecting objects are deep seated behaviours containing many layers of meaning for the individual. Memory, identity, signifiers and the expression of creativity underlie these activities.

“Sculpture, drawing and painting all form part of my practice. The varied approaches feed one another allowing me to develop ideas”.

The objects present in the works originate from a variety of sources; Museum collections of artefacts, botanical drawings, china cabinets loaded with memories through to the unthrow awayable in the shed. These objects are then drawn from memory, repeatedly reworked changed scale and morphed. The resultant forms contain fragments of their beginnings but are ambiguous, as open to interpretation as is history and ritual making.

All my sculptures are hand cut and carved from MDF. This allows me to cut and construct complex forms which are then painted.

I have a home gallery that you are welcome to visit but phone in advance to check if I am around. Ph 0272731909 to visit.
