  • Central Otago Regional Orchestra - CORO Chamber Collection. Alexandra and Wanaka

The Central Otago Regional Orchestra brings you their CORO Chamber Collection.

September 2nd at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery, Alexandra starting 7 pm.

September 3rd at Aspiring Lifestyle Village, Wanaka at 2 pm .

This will be in the style of our successful spring series in 2022. Groups of musicians from the orchestra have been enjoying playing in small ensembles of various sizes over winter. Some of the pieces being prepared for the delectation of our audience are Tchaikovsky’s Andante Cantabile with a string quartet style backing, Haydn’s London trio  No. 1, J C Bach’s Quintet in D major, and Reicha’s Sinfonico for flute quartet.

Playing in small ensembles gives a special musical experience from both the players and the audiences points of view. Players need to work as a team, listening carefully to each other as the music ebbs and flows among the parts to achieve balance. Communication is non-verbal and nuances of timing and expression need to be respected by all. The audience has the opportunity to hear and see all of the above, listen to the cohesive whole and immerse themselves in music that has stood the test of time.

Our smaller venues in this series allow the intimacy of the chamber where it all began. In the Renaissance and baroque period, social function guided the classification of music into one of three groups: church music, theatre music and chamber music. This latter included all the music that was played in private households whether vocal or instrumental, solo or ensemble.

So please step into our smaller spaces and savour the sounds of CORO ensembles playing well-loved composers.

Tickets are $25, school children free. Doors sales will be available or you can prepurchase your tickets from Central Stories, Aspiring Lifestyle Village, the Gifted Design Store or by visiting www.undertheradar.co.nz
