  • Sam Duckor-Jones in Bannockburn -

Bannockburn Arts are bringing poet Sam Duckor-Jones back to Bannockburn in April for a different style of poetry workshop - designed to cater for those who enthusiastically attend workshops, leave full of ideas, and then life gets in the way!

A weekend workshop on 13-14 April will be followed by 10 weekly get together sessions. Sam will set a poetry challenge and participants will be asked to get together to read the poem they have written. Sam will also work individually with participants to review their works.

Sam has completed a master's in creative writing at the International Institute of Modern Letters in 2017, for which he won the Biggs Family Prize.  He has published two acclaimed collections of poetry: People Form the Pits Stand Up and Party Legend, which was long listed for the 2022 Ockham NZ Book Awards.

He has exhibited widely with artwork in private and public collections and is represented by Rowan Galleries. Sam’s current art project is the transformation of a derelict West Coast church into a public sculpture, Gloria of Greymouth. He spends his time between Wellington and Greymouth.

The course is open to all, regardless of whether you are a beginner, dabbler or an established poet. Two places in the small group workshop will be offered free to Central Otago secondary school students. Please encourage your young ones to enter.
